New Survey Finds That an Increase in Healthcare Providers Preferred to Live in Rural Areas During the Height of the Pandemic

Compared to 2019, the 2020 report found a 20 percent increase in the desire of healthcare providers preference in a rural community over a city, with an 18 percent decrease in preference in 2021. The Medicus Firm believes this is connected to pandemic-induced behavior of the desire to be living in a less populated environment and the increase interest in providing telehealth in 2020.

The State of Physician Burnout

Earlier this year, The Medicus Firm surveyed nearly 3,000 providers about their job satisfaction and search process in the 2020 pandemic environment. While we've seen many effects of the pandemic continue to play out, physician burnout is undoubtedly exponentially increasing, having a persistent negative impact on physician career satisfaction.

Survey Finds Healthcare Providers Have Lost Income and Are Less Likely to Make a Career Change

Over half (59%) of healthcare providers have experienced a decrease in income due to COVID-19, according to a recent survey. Physicians and advanced practice clinicians reported an average of 22% decrease in income compared to 2019. The survey is The Medicus Firm’s annual Practice Preference & Relocation Survey and is comprised of 2,464 responses from physicians and advanced practice clinicians across multiple specialties.

Report Supports the Return of Elective Procedures is Key for Healthcare Job Market Growth

Forty-four percent of healthcare facilities report 81-100% of their elective procedures have returned which is up from 13%, according to a recent survey report. The healthcare job market is showing some signs of return with new job openings, increased locum tenens usage, and less movement in new hire start dates. The survey is the third in a series conducted by The Medicus Firm to learn how healthcare employers are adjusting to recruiting healthcare providers in a job market impacted by Coronavirus.
