New Survey Finds That an Increase in Healthcare Providers Preferred to Live in Rural Areas During the Height of the Pandemic

Compared to 2019, the 2020 report found a 20 percent increase in the desire of healthcare providers preference in a rural community over a city, with an 18 percent decrease in preference in 2021. The Medicus Firm believes this is connected to pandemic-induced behavior of the desire to be living in a less populated environment and the increase interest in providing telehealth in 2020.

Over half (59%) of healthcare providers have experienced a decrease in income due to COVID-19, according to a recent survey. Physicians and advanced practice clinicians reported an average of 22% decrease in income compared to 2019. The survey is The Medicus Firm’s annual Practice Preference & Relocation Survey and is comprised of 2,464 responses from physicians and advanced practice clinicians across multiple specialties.

The survey is the third in a series conducted by The Medicus Firm to learn how healthcare employers are adjusting to recruiting healthcare providers in a job market impacted by Coronavirus.
