Job Duties
Hospitalists practice in hospitals and treat an array of conditions, working to treat patients staying in the hospital due to a variety of illnesses. While working in your career as a Hospitalist, you can expect to perform the following duties: providing general medical care to hospitalized patients, leading the hospital medical team, and coordinating care for inpatients. They may also order x-rays, run diagnostic tests, and complete other lab work.

Work Environment
As mentioned previously, Hospitalists work in hospitals, alternating between direct patient care and indirect patient care.

Education
Even after completing the long, marathon-like education requirements to becoming a Hospitalist, you may choose to partake in CME, or continuing medical education. You will find that there are Hospitalist-specific organizations that offer CME resources. In some cases, certain states will also offer CME resources. There are also some more general organizations that focus solely on providing physicians with CME resources. In any case, these resources can include the following: videos, live and virtual conferences, webinars, podcasts, and live and virtual courses. Among these organizations are SHM, Harvard, Mayo Clinic, myCME, American College of Physicians (ACP), BoardVitals, and the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA).
